Michigan State University just released their most recent recruiting trends report. The results apply to all young professionals who are entering the workforce for the first time or who are looking for that next job.
First, overall hiring is expected to decrease by 8% this year over last. Not a huge surprise but what is surprising are the underlying results and stats.
-
Small, fast growing companies are expected to significantly increase their hiring: companies who have less than 54 employees wil increase their hiring by 1% and companies who have between 55 and 300 employees will increase hiring by 7% this year.
The take away? Smaller companies typically do not have a presence on campus and also do not hire according to the academic calendar. Thus, candidates will have to really look for the opportunities through netwroking and any tool available to them. Further, candidates need to be focused, directed and connected in this job market according to this study. They also need to work hard for the job and be patient in this turbulent market.
Stay tuned for specific, creative ways young professionals can identify these organizations and land the job!
