I spoke with a young adult a few weeks ago about our services. He told me that he didn’t need help finding a job. He had an offer in hand from Lehman Brothers in their training program. Needless to say, he contacted me last week to ask what else he might do. He and his friends thought the problem was solved.. they were supposed to be Wall Steet-bound.
What is it about Wall Street that excites so many people, especially young people?
Wall Street is a great place to be IF you can live with the roller coaster ride. As someone who (barely) lived through the crash of ’87 (that’s 1987), I can tell you that the financial industry is a great place to work. It’s fun, fast paced and you can make some good money. But, you can also find yourself out of a job at any time.
So, what to do? If you still want Wall Street, be prepared to look and wait. If you need a job sooner, investigate other options to see what else you might do. There are lots of ways to use those same skills in other industries. In either case, keep your network alive all the time. Don’t wait until you need it.
