In defense of liberal arts

We keep hearing that a liberal arts degree is not a good thing to pursue because you “can’t do anything with it”. Well, I for one do not agree. Nor do several educational consultants I recently met with.
You will have your college degree for life. Looking back 20 years (and yes, I can do that), we didn’t have the internet, cell phones, dvds, twitter… the list goes on. I think we had VCRs but that’s about as high tech as we got.
What we DID have were problems that had to be solved, customers that had to be kept satisfied and products that had to be sold. Seems to me that we still have these issues and probably always will.
Many of the jobs we are preparing college students for today did not exist 20 years ago. Who knows what the next 20 years will bring? This country will always need the ability to think and communicate. The trick is to know what to do with your liberal arts degree.

So, I say to liberal arts: bring it on!
